OOPS! I wanted to see the Minnesota links.
The Chippewa National Forest is a wood of many moods. Our hike began on this day with an almost mystical morning fog.
About 75 miles later Marie, Dave, Chips and I crossed Route 64 in Paul Bunyan State Forest. Only 35 more miles to go for this hike! Although this section was on a road, we also did a lot of bushwacking with compass and brain. Want to learn more about orienteering?
Minnesota is a land of lakes, wetlands and their inhabitants- like this leopard frog. She's hiding in a poison ivy patch! The other guy just hangs out underwater all the time. He was too busy lunching to care that I was focusing on him.
This beautiful marsh in Paul Bunyan State Forest provided a backdrop for one of our lunch stops. And a furry visitor joined us!
From the tall to the small, Minnesota was a true northwoods experience. (Red pine in Itasca Lake State Park, indian paintbrush, and chicken mushroom)
Deeper water reflects the sky and the sound of a loon was heard.
